How to make vertical text for Instagram Stories

Vertical text works well for short titles. On forest, mountain or coastal photos, it can follow the vertical space in the composition while leaving more of the scenery visible.

Create vertical text in Gooditor

1. Start with a short title

   Start with a short title, like the three-character forest title in the example. More characters need more vertical space. Keep longer captions horizontal so the text does not cover the whole photo.

2. Choose vertical layout

   Choose vertical writing in the text effects settings, or pick a vertical style from the Inspiration Wall. Adjust the font size and spacing, and check the gap between columns if your text has more than one.

3. Paste into Instagram and position it

   Copy and paste the text onto your Story photo. Start small, then enlarge it gradually. Keep every character visible and avoid covering the main subject.

Forest photos: find a clear vertical area

The forest example places three characters in the center, drawing the eye toward the trail. Bold white text contrasts with the dark trees. For your own photo, look for a darker area with fewer branches crossing it; the center is not always the best spot.

Coastal photos: watch out for clouds and white water

The coastal example places vertical text in the sky. White letters can disappear against clouds, so shift the text or add a dark outline. Keep the shoreline and foreground flowers visible as the main features of the photo.

Before you post

• Check that no letters are cropped by the size or layout.
• Make sure the title is readable at normal phone size.
• Keep text clear of Instagram controls and interactive stickers.
• To change the words, edit in Gooditor and copy again.
